Nearly 2,000 years ago the writer of the Apocolypse seemed to address seven churches in seven cities; yet the better reasoning indicates that these seven cities were merely symbolic like nearly everything else in the book. Many scholars in agreement stress that the symbolism of these seven cities will not be seen or understood until the "latter days"; or just prior to the return of Jesus Christ.

In support, E.W. Bullinger says: "Few are aware that the evidence as to the existence of these assemblies as churches is very scanty. Indeed, concerning some, not only is evidence wanting; but concerning others it is quite opposed to their ever having existed at all."--The Apocolypse (Commentary on Revelation); 1935. Many scholars know that the historical record states no congregation existed in Thyatira when John recorded his visions.

This strongly suggests that the seven cities were symbolic.

Our research reveals that the Apocolypse portrays a specific unveiling of information at a time just prior to the return of Jesus Christ. Certainly, there are many statements made throughout the seven letters which could be applied to all churches, in all times. Nevertheless, these visions specifically pertain to end time events, and not to any "multiple eras" formula regardless of false teachers such as Tim LaHaye and Hal Lindsey who claim otherwise through their marketing schemes.

The multiple eras teaching tends to focus our attention near the end of the seven letter circuit. This is a totally wrong approach as it keeps us fixated away from where God has been wanting us to be focused in these latter days.

It's not merely at the end of the seven letter circuit (near the Laodicean letter), that God wants us to be studying in these latter days. To the contrary, it is in the middle of the seven letters that we are to find help in unveiling an end-time meaning. Bullinger says, "They are seven in number, as we know: but we have to note that the seven here, as elsewhere, is divided into three and four. Each epistle ends with two things: 1) an injunction to "hear"; 2) a promise to him that "overcometh." In the first three epistles the promise comes after the injunction. In the last four it comes before it." Bullinger thought we should look where the Pergamum & Thyatira letters meet, and not at the end of the circuit!

In A Critical and Exegetical Handbook to the Revelation of John, J. F. Dusterdieck agrees, saying, "The methodical disposition of the Apocolypse is further conditioned by the number seven, and the numbers three and four as its components. There are seven epistles, seals, trumpets, vials. Thus the fundamental plan of the book may almost be said to be projected according to the number seven. But in this similarity there enters a diversity, by the resolution of seven into three and four. The first three are distinguished from the last four by the construction of the conclusion. In the seals, the number four precedes, and three follows; for every time after the opening of the first four seals, one of the four beings, by whose introduction the scene is very significantly animated, summons the seer to come near. The first four trumpets, also, are distinguished from the three last; the latter are expressly proclaimed as the three woes. Finally, in the vials, the first three are separated from the last four by voices which cease to be heard after the pouring-forth of the third vial."

This division of three & four into seven is a repeating pattern in the Apocolypse and many scholars are of the opinion that we should rightly apply this same pattern when considering the seven letter circuit as a whole.

Dusterdieck continues: "All seven epistles (chs. ii. and iii.) are not only like one another in their dependence upon the same fundamental thought, viz., the advent of the Lord, since they explain it and apply it, as often as presented, in a manifold way; but they are also skillfully planned and forcibly elaborated according to a scheme...The conclusion is always divided into two parts, and has a decidedly very general siginificance, so that each individual epistle calls to mind the more general meaning found in the whole seven. The two members of the conclusion contain exhortations directed to every one who has ears to hear the address of the Spirit to the churches, and a promise to victors, pointing to the final completion of Christ's kingdom; so that thus, even in these closing verses, there is an intimation of the goal of the Apoc. prophecy, --the coming of the Lord. It is, besides, to be remarked concerning both these members, that in the first three epistles the exhortaion precedes and the promise follows, while in the last four epistles the order is reversed; so that the number seven seems intentionally resolved into three and four, as also elsewhere..." Besides saying we should only consider the entire seven letters from an end-time perspective, Dusterdieck also agrees that we should consider the entire seven cities in the repeating 3rd & 4th pattern as well.

Many other reasons cause us to fixate on these two letters more than the other five. Notice: 1) they were the only two cities of Mysian territory; 2) both are grouped close together (north of the Hermus river), and away from the other five; 3) the first 3 cities were considered to be "major", with the remaining 4 known as "lesser" in size and importance; 4) the length of these two epistles are obviously longer than the others; 5) they are the only two letters which name humans from OT: Balaam/Balac & Jezebel; 6) they are the only two letters said to commit fornication/adultery; 7) they are the only two who ate things sacrificed to idols; h) both had false teachers & teachings; 8) both letters mention metal (twice in each)--sharp sword/sword of mouth & brass/rod of iron. Other examples exist besides these.

We became convinced that the writer of the Apocolypse wanted us: 1) to look at the entire seven cities symbolically; 2) and to do so with a special attention to the 3rd & 4th letters specifically; and 3) we had to consider it all in an exclusively end time mindset. After diligently seeking help through the Holy Spirit, we found what many have been searching for all along!

We felt led to connect the dots and consider what the shape might represent. Once the shape was seen, the rest was rather simple.

So what does the seven letter circuit represent?

PSALM 64:7

"Turn you to the stronghold, ye prisoners of hope: even today do I declare that I will render double unto thee; When I have bent Judah for me, filled the bow with Ephraim, and raised up thy sons, O Zion, against thy sons, O Greece, and made thee as the sword of a mighty man"--Zech. 9:12-13; KJV.

After connecting the dots we were immediately struck by the symmetry that quickly took shape. Obviously, it was pointing at something specific, but what?

If one runs a line from the rear of the 7-letter circuit's hexagonal figure from Sardis through Ephesus, then you can easily see a direction that was intended from the beginning. A look in that direction out into the Aegean & Mediterranean seas helped us to find what we were after.

While searching in that direction, we first paused at a very famous site called Thera/Santorini. This island is very historical and is most famous for being believed by many scholars to be the ancient site of Atlantis. We quickly moved on.

Obviously, running this line further out past Thera showed a path leading directly over western Crete. A thorough study of this geographic area reveals a second Pergamum. Some archeologists claim that this Pergamum has been incorrectly named and is actually the first Cydonia. As a result, one could easily argue that the names Pergamum and Cydonia are synonymous.

If this is correct, then we expected some Thyatiran/4th letter connection would be found nearby this other Pergamum which had represented the 3rd letter. Sure enough, there is a 4th letter connection here! Notice, "About five miles to the south-south-west of Canea [modern Cydonia], there is a hill among the mountains, on which there are some ruins; I conjecture that this hill is Mount Tityrus, on which, according to Strabo, the city of Cydonia seems to have been siutated."--Travels in Crete (vol. 1) by R. Pashley; 1970. Apparently, some have confused this site with the first Cydonia as well. One could easily consider all three to be synonymous in this study; i.e. Pergamum-Thyatira-Cydonia. It shouldn't be difficult for the reader to sense the second Pergamum & Thyatira which the seven letters are clearly pointing at.

Another site in this study proves our Martian point even further. In ancient Phoenecia [modern Lebanon], there were the famous cities of Tyre & Sidon. (This Tyre and Sidon were very likely named by earlier inhabitants from Crete who migrated to Phoenecia in the 2nd millenium BC. Nearly all scholars agree that the Phoenecians are, in part, from Cretan genetic stock.) Jezebel, from the Pergamum/4th letter, was a "Sidonian" which shows a seeming phonetic connection in English to the "Cydonia" of which the 7 letters are pointing.

When we look to the seven letters themselves, we see the same repeating pattern. Certainly, the 3rd letter is named after Pergamum which represents Satan's seat. Then, we see Ezekiel's prophecies (Explained in: Unearthing Ancient Tracks ) come to life again in the Apocolypse as the 4th letter possesses the name Thya-tira. Remember, the king of Tyre is Satan the Devil.

VATICAN - TYRE CONNECTION?

In Book of Revelation (New International Commentary), R. H. Mounce, says, "...under Roman rule, Thyatira was destined for growth and prosperity as a center for manufacturing and marketing. An outstanding charactersitic of Thyatira was the large number of trade guilds that flourished there...Since the trade-guilds were inseparably intertwined with local religious observances, they posed a special problem for the economic well-being of Christians. The divine guardian of the city was the god Tyrimnos (identified with the sun-god Apollo), who would be conceived of as the patron of the guilds and therefore honored in their festivities..." Some have claimed that Thyatira derives its name from Gr. thea, meaning "goddess", and Gr. tyrannos, meaning tyrant/king. If this is correct, then we have a masculine-tyrant-goddess here.

Notice below the Pergamum (i.e.-Satan's seat?) which the seven letters are pointing to near Cydonia in Crete!

NASA gave the Cydonia on Mars its peculiar name in 1957. This astral Cydonia was named after the one in ancient Crete and just happens to be the place on Mars where some experts claim to have proven that artificially constructed edifices still exist. The experts on this subject claim to have found extremely odd similarities to many enigmatic structures on Earth as well. It's as if, they say, a single mind originally fashioned a single blueprint plan for all of these buildings. Some of these buildings were allegedly constructed before and after Adam's time!

So what does it all mean? Whatever the case, the Holy Bible seems to be saying (from nearly 2,000 years ago) that we are to consider the builders of Cydonia on Mars as the greatest enemies against God's children here at the end!
